Tekla has been practicing law in the El Paso legal community for more than 25 years. She has extensive experience in medical malpractice, insurance defense, products liability, premise liability, and consumer litigation. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1997, following her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994.

Tekla is admitted to practice in the State of Texas and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. Her professional involvement includes membership in the State Bar of Texas, the El Paso Bar Association, and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel. She has also been a member of the El Paso Women's Bar Association, the El Paso Young Lawyers Association, and the Texas Young Lawyers Association. 

In addition to her legal practice, Tekla is deeply involved in her community. Throughout her professional career she has been active in the El Paso community including membership in the Junior League of El Paso, membership in and serving as President of the El Paso Texas Exes, serving on the Board of Trustees and the Building Committee of St. Marks Church and School, and also serving on the Board and as President of the PTSA for a local school. Tekla also volunteers for various local youth sports organizations, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization, contributing her time and skills to support and mentor young athletes.
